Images and hotpots can be annoying unless you plan well. Basically you point the hotpot to the images you want so you need to be careful where you save them online - they have to be in the same place relative to the activity when you were creating it.
Here is a fail-proof method for including images in hotpots...
1. Resize the images to the required size. (You can use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to do this. Use the "Picture > Resize" menu option)
2. Make a folder for your hotpot.
3. Copy your images to the folder.
4. Open the Hot Potatoes package and save your activity in the SAME folder. (yes save it before you begin creating it)
5. Now create your hotpot using "Insert > Picture > Picture from local file" for inserting images. (You will see some code in your hotpot - not the actual image, that you see in your browser later)
6. Save the hotpot in your folder.
7. Export the activity (Create a web page) into the SAME folder.
And you are done with the creating of the hotpot.
Now for uploading this hotpot.
8. Zip up your folder (you created in step 2 above) - the easiest way to do this is to right-click on the folder, then select "Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder"
9. Go to the Admin block of your course.
10. Click on "Files"
11. Go to the folder where you want to save the hotpot. (Create a new one if there isn't one already)
12. Upload the zipped folder (Created in step 8 above)
13. Unzip the folder
That is now uploaded.
Now add your hotpot in the normal way
14. In the course topic select "Add an activity > Hot Potatoes Quiz"
15. Name the hot pot (Use "select specific text")
16. Choose the htm file (created in step 7) - you'll find it in the unzipped folder.
17. Change the grade to what it should be. (You can do this later if you are not sure)
18. Make sure that the other settings are what you require.
19. "Save and Display" and check if all is working as it should.
If this doesn't do the trick then please reply to this post or send me a message and I will get back to you.
